My honey in front of Mirchi/Shang Thai which is just behind the Al Khuwair McDonald’s
These shrimp chips are served when you first sit down
One of the appetizers we tried-vegetable spring rolls. Pretty good!
Another appetizer-dimsum
Che with Vinoo and Pastor Michael Peppin. By the way this building is actually TWO restaurants. The ground floor serves Indian food (this restaurant is “Mirchi” and the Thai restaurant, “Shang Thai“, is on the 1st floor (what we would call “the 2nd floor” in Canada…). We enjoyed the Thai restaurant this time. (Tel: 24483083)
Speaking of Thailand…Che and I are taking off tomorrow for a 2 week vacation!!! (like a late honeymoon) If I am on-line, you will be able to catch us at : www.andyinthailand.wordpress.com
Enjoy your summer everyone, take care & God bless!!!

Thanks to your article, I finally found out that Mirchi and Shang Tai were in fact two restaurants and not something else. Driving on the highway, it is not obvious what type of business it is exactly.
As we love tai food, my kids and I decided to try it last friday for lunch and we were honestly plaisantly surprised. The Shang Tai is well decorated and very clean, the staff very friendly and polite, and more importantly our food was simply delicious! Among several dishes, we had the tom wong soup, the vegetable spring rools, the shrimps on toast, the duck, the sweet and sour shrimps etc and one dish was as good as the other!
It is a restaurant I will definitely go back to, but maybe order less as the meals can be quite filling. Thanks for letting the readers know about it and for your site which is pleasant to read.

Hello Andy,
It is my first time to read your blog and I find very informative and entertaining. You’re doing a great job updating it!
I just want to ask you about the cost of living in Oman. My husband has an offer to work there as a Quantity Surveyor (engineer) . do you have any idea how much salary he should receive if given free accommodation and transportation? What’s usually the monthly expense for a family of 3? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks in advance.
God bless you and your wife.

Thanks for the comments, S. Roc and Amanda!
To answer your question about salaries, Amanda, I really am not sure about what kind of a salary quantity surveyors make. The fact that he is given free accomodation (if it is spacious enough for the family) and transportation certainly helps. I would say that a salary of not less than 1000 RO would be enough for a family of 3. (It would be best to compare with what kind of salary your husband makes now though…) Sorry that I can’t be of more help. Let me know if you decide to come. It’s a great place to live. Many blessings!
