If you google “largest deserts in the world“, it’s amazing how many differences there are depending on which site you reach. Some say this desert (The Empty Quarter or “Rub Al Khali” in Arabic) is the 5th largest in the world while others say the 3rd largest. It also depends on whether you are talking about sub-tropical deserts or cold winter deserts.
