Another fantastic sermon by Reverend Michael Peppin, the Lead Pastor of the PCO (Protestant Church in Oman). Based off the reading from Mark 5 titled “Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man“.
These words might seem far too strong to some people. Nevertheless, they are true. God (not man) tells us that all humans are under the control of Satan. This is clearly spelled out in Ephesians 2, especially verses 1-3. Christians are no longer under Satan’s control, but scripture tells us in Ephesians 4:27 that he can get a “foothold” in our lives as we stray from God and His Word.
Mark 5:11-17 The people were more interested in profit than hearing from a Prophet. They shouldn’t have been dealing with pigs in the first place as it was forbidden in ancient Judaism as a spiritual lesson about separating that which is holy from the unholy.
This sounds so much like our generation. People are more concerned about animals than they are human-beings. (Not that animals shouldn’t be cared for!) We have so many “animal rights activists” and “tree-hugger environmentalists” that are more outraged by harm to animals than they are about the wholesale slaughter and exploitation of people across our globe!
One of the worst requests that Jesus will respect (as a complete gentleman) is to depart where He is not wanted but that is to the utter destruction of the one who may not realize the perilous consequences of such an unfortunate request.
Jesus is “Lord of all or not at all”. I never noticed this before, but did you know that Judas never referred to Jesus as “Lord” even once in Scripture?! Unlike the other 11 disciples who did. (see Matthew 22:26) The highest honor Judas ever afforded Jesus was to call him “Rabbi” or “Teacher“. Telling.
