You Raise Me Up – From Distress to Strength

 “When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;  When troubles come, and my heart burdened be – And I am still and wait here in the silence until You come and sit awhile with me.”

“I waited patiently for the LORD; He turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me (or raised me up! 🙂 ) out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” (Psalm 40:1-3)                                “David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.”            (1 Samuel 30:6, (NIV) New International Version)                                                                                     “Andy was greatly distressed because fill in the blank with whatever battle I may find myself in..But Andy found strength in the LORD his God.”                                                                                                 (1 Samuel 30:6, (AIV) Andy’s Internalized Version)

  1. This is beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes!! Thanks for sharing, Andy!

    • Cathy,
      So glad you enjoyed it. I am touched each time I hear this sound and it immediately (like I would guess with most Christians) brings Christ to mind who is in the business of lifting people up. I hope all is well with you in Nizwa. Keep up the great blogging! 🙂

  2. AAAAh 😀 one of my all time favourite songs! I remember we sang this during our assembly once when we were in school.

    • It is an awesome song and one of Westlife’s most popular tunes. I was seriously considering seeing Westlife in concert here in Muscat JUST FOR THIS ONE SONG but then I thought, “What if they don’t sing it?!” (Anyone know if they sang this in Muscat, by the way? I’ve been dying to know!)

  3. Beautiful song… and more beautiful is the reflection.

    • Hi, Amanda!
      Yes, it is such a beautiful song and I never tire of hearing it, especially the first part. Thanks for the nice words regarding the reflection. I’m guessing that the reason you find the reflection so beautiful is because it’s all scripture, and nothing is more beautiful than the living Word of God! 🙂

  4. They did sing it 🙂

    • Hi, Nadia!
      Thanks a lot for the confirmation. Of course I should have guessed that they’d sing this beautiful song and I’m glad for those of you who went to the concert that they did! Must have been so nice to hear them singing it live, huh? Thanks again, Nadia!

  5. Amazing song! my fav version is by Josh Groban

  6. Lost in Oman,
    Thanks for the comment and shared link to your favorite version.
    I think I’ve found my favorite version here by a Christian band called “Selah”:
