“Nothing to do in Muscat“, you say?! Think again! If you’re going to be in Muscat this coming Saturday (November 2nd), you don’t want to miss one of the biggest Red Bull events of the year: Red Bull Car Park Drift! This is the qualifying event and the final stop before the finals are held in Dubai on November 8th. Come out to the Oman Automobile Association and find out who will be the next Omani King of Drift!
This year’s qualifying event makes it the 4th consecutive year that Red Bull has been hosting this extremely popular event in Oman. To give you an idea of the history of Red Bull Car Park Drift, here’s a pretty cool and informative video:
Last year, Mohammed Al Asmi (aka “Mambo“) retained his crown as “The King of Drift” for the 2nd consecutive year and he went on to compete in Jordan, representing the Sultanate of Oman. Here’s a nice little video his team. “Oman Champions Team“, put together: It’s nice to know that due to tremendous turnout and success in Oman at such events over the past 3 years, this year 2 Omanis will be selected to represent the Sultanate at the regional finals in Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Centre! Go, Oman! 🙂
Preliminary rounds take place the day before on November 1st to select the best of the best drivers to battle for the drifting title.
Action starts at 2pm! There’s no reason not to head down and see the action for yourselves as this is a non-ticketed event! See you there, fellow Muscateers!
This event is in partnership with the Oman Automobile Association, and sponsored by Chevrolet, Total, Bridgestone, Nawras, Merge 104.8, and al Wisal 96.5.
Before turning into a breakthrough motor sport in the Middle East, the concept of this motorsport originated in Japan during the 1970’s based on the idea of competing in parking lots.
If you can’t make it to the event this weekend, you can still be a part of the action in the gaming world. That’s because Red Bull has added some cool games on the new website including karting/motocross: http://games.redbull.com/mea/en
