This scene screamed out “UNEXPECTED” to me as I was shopping with the family in Carrefour Muscat City Centre this week. I’m reminded of my 1st Christmas in Oman 6 years ago. I think it’s safe to say that almost no one coming to Oman for the first time expects to see such Christmas decorations in a Muslim land! The reason it was unexpected for me this year is that Christmas had not been on my mind at all and suddenly, boom, there’s santa and all the bells and whistles you would expect at a department store back home staring me in the face! Surprisingly, there are only like 30 days left till Christmas! Hope you enjoyed my entry for this week’s photo challenge from the folks at WordPress. “Ho!ho!ho!” and all that jazz! 😉

Pingback: NaBloPoMo 24. WP Photo Challenge: Unexpected at Church | JaniceHeck
Andy, of course I’m sure you know that the whole santa and tree thing is pagan and not per se Christian. Indeed, I don’t see any crosses or other religions totems in view. . . . .just “Season’s Greeting’s”. Would have the Christian political right in a uproar in the US.
On Sun, Nov 24, 2013 at 2:01 PM, Andy in Oman
I am aware of the controversy behind the origins of Christmas, but true Christians are not suggesting that Christ was born on Dec 25th. There is nothing wrong with using Christmas as a time to reflect on His first coming and share the good news to a lost world as we anticipate His 2nd (soon approaching!) coming. The so-called Christian political right’s uproars are but mere whispers in comparison to the uproars of the liberals and their deafening voices as they push their agenda in the US and well beyond its shores.
Hahaha, SURPRISE 😀
And if you noticed here people are more exited than any other non-Muslim country.
I don’t know if Oman is any more excited about Christmas than any other nation. One trip to Dubai during the Christmas season might cause you to rethink your comment. 🙂 As for non-Muslim countries, visit the Philippines during Christmas to see what excitement during Christmas is all about! 🙂

Its super cool.

Very unexpected! Zooming in on the photo you can actually see the word Christmas a few times too 🙂
Good eyes, nickzantop! 🙂
