Dear Future Mom: World Down Syndrome Day – March 21st

A father shares honestly about his struggles to accept and love his baby girl with down syndrome:  “3/21 is significant because Down Syndrome is the 3rd replication of the 21st chromosome.”

Sad to read these stats on wikipedia: “About 92% of pregnancies in the United Kingdom and Europe with a diagnosis of Down syndrome are terminated.[5] In the United States termination rates are around 67%; however this varies significantly depending upon the population looked at.[4] When non pregnant people are asked if they would have a termination if their fetus tested positive 23–33% said yes, when high risk pregnant women were asked 46–86% said yes, and when women who screen positive are asked 89–97% say yes.[70]”

I was wondering why there seem to be a high number of children with Down Syndrome in Oman.  One of the reasons may be that Omanis, because of their religious beliefs, don’t believe in murdering the children that have been given to them as a blessing by God!
