GoPro: Red Bull Stratos – The Full Story

1 year and 3.5 months ago on Oct. 14th, 2012, Felix Baumgartner made the highest jump ever made by man on his famous “mission to the edge of space“. Yesterday, GoPro released the following awesome video from that historic event:

“Trust Your Power” (Duracell) Inspiring Ads

Duracell has come up with a string of inspirational ads termed “Trust Your Power“.  Here’s the latest featuring Derrick Coleman of the Seattle Seahawks, the first legally deaf offensive player in NFL history.  This video has gone viral and with good reason!   As the video description reads, “When the world tells you “no”, you have two options: You can roll over and quit — or you can trust your power. Derrick Coleman, running back for the Seattle Seahawks, trusted the power within.  Although he’s deaf, he never let adversity stand in his way, on his road to the NFL. Share to inspire others to trust their power within and achieve their dreams.”

Great message but from a Christian perspective, such ads can be dangerous if taken to the extreme.  One of the central themes of the Bible is to trust in God rather than trust in man or oneself.  There is a world of difference between trusting in yourself (self-sufficiency) and trusting in God’s sufficiency to work things out for your good; knowing that you were made in the image of God and possessing certain talents that He has placed in you and as a result, determining never to give in or quit.

Check out other official Duracell videos on their official youtube channel.

Just some thoughts on faith in God versus faith in self.  Not just a matter of semantics as “without faith (in God!) it is impossible to please God“. (Hebrews 11:6)  “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)  “and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:33)  “According to your faith (in Christ), may it be done unto you.” (Matthew 9:29)
