2 kilometers down the road from Al Mughsayl Bay Beach (or 47 kms from Salalah), is the impressive Al Marnif Cave. Here is the view coming from Bay Beach (during “Khareef” rainy season, that is): The rock formation on the far left in the pic above is Marnif Cave. The mountain above Marnif cave which probably gets neglected all the time (not on this blog, buddy! 🙂 ) due to the more impressive features of his smaller brother below! Looking back towards Mughsayl Bay Beach. What a view! While taking this shot, a small natural blowhole suddenly spurted up a column of water. Bonus! There’s nothing like a welcoming sign from the Ministry of Tourism to make a tourist feel welcome! Thanks MoT! 🙂 Unfortunately, there is always a small minority who do not take heed to the advice posted here and end up “Taking anything they can get their hands on and leaving nothing but trash“! Look at that blowhole in the distance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u1iMkE1VUU As you might realize from the pics, Al Marnif is not so much a cave per se, as it is a “cliff”, “interesting rock formation” or “semi-cave”. There is no entrance hole that takes you inside a mountain or leads underground which is what I would classify a cave to be. The pathway and bridge leading down to the famous Al Mugsayl blowholes This is one of my favorite pics of Al Marnif Cave looking back from the Al Mughsayl blowholes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wTAfNzGYm4 Don’t you find that the far right of this rock formation looks like a seahorse?! While we’re on the topic of seahorses, let me take this time to present to you a video of one I took in Thailand last year. It’s one of my least viewed vids of all times (and I’m not sure why…don’t people find seahorses adorable?!), so up the views, folks! 🙂 Al Marnif/Marneef Cave was a very impressive site. Perhaps the “cave” itself was not “that” impressive one could argue, but when you realize that a trip to Marnif will also include impressive seacoast views, a look at the fascinating blowholes of Mughsayl and some of the most incredible white-sand beaches, one cannot help but be amazed by the natural scenes of wonder in Salalah and its surrounding areas! Wow!
